136th Annual NAPA Convention, Nashville, TN

July 7–9, 2011 at Nashville, Tennessee

CONVENTION UPDATE

Alice Brosey, Convention Arrangements Chair, “would like to encourage people to make their reservations for the convention!! Although several have insinuated they will be attending, we have 16 days left of the discount rate, and so far the only reservations are myself, Guy Miller, Stephen Powell, and Gussie Segal! No Warners appear to be reserved a room yet… and I am sure there are others that have said they would attend! Yet, reservations need to be made.”

136TH CONVENTION IS IN 6 WEEKS.
RESERVATION DEADLINE: JUNE 16

Alice Brosey, Convention Arrangements Chair, announces the following info about our upcoming convention:

“The hotel link for booking for our group is: http://nashvillebrentwood.place.hyatt.com/groupbooking/bnazbnapa2011.

Hotel contact information:
        202 Summit View Drive
        Brentwood, Tennessee 37027, USA
        Tel: +1 615 661 9477 Fax: +1 615 661 9936

It is just off of I-65 at the Nashville/Brentwood line.

“If you call to make a reservation make sure you tell them you need the group NAPA rate. It defaults to wanting you to come only Thurs/Fri/Sat, but the rate is also good for Wednesday night. The deadline for reservations at the group rate ($99 which includes a suite-style hotel room, hot breakfast, free internet, and many other amenities listed on their site) is June 16, 2011. There is no extra fee for multiple people sharing one hotel room.

“There are many easy dining establishments within sight of the hotel, and a large number of restaurants just down the street either direction, dozens of options within a mile or two of the hotel. I will prepare a list of suggested dining options with directions and a small map that will be available at the convention.

“The convention will be held on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 7–9, with the banquet on Saturday night and an optional picnic on Sunday, July 10, at Centennial Park in Nashville, home of the Parthenon. This is a big Nashville landmark and will be a good place to visit and very pleasant. This is weather permitting, I am working on a backup picnic plan. There are some shelters at the park, but it won’t be pleasant if it rains. Marc, my parents and I will be coming in to Nashville Wednesday and hope to open the hospitality suite (a hotel room near the meeting space) in the early afternoon and begin convention registration in that room. We won’t have the meeting space until Thursday morning, but will assure that the hotel staff direct any NAPA attendees arriving on Wednesday to the hospitality suite.

“Friday night we will have a tour of Hatch Show Print by Jim Sherraden. This is during Hatch’s official ‘closed’ time. There will be many restaurants worth visiting for dinner as Hatch Show Print is in the middle of a restaurant-filled area of downtown Nashville.”

Alice added that she thinks there will be an auction, but it’s not decided yet whether it will be purely to benefit NAPA, or whether individuals may elect to retain some portion of the sale price for themselves, as was done last year. She plans to have a speaker on preserving printed materials, as well as a banquet speaker.
